14 Jan A girl should be two things; who and what she wants – Coco Chanel
I had another lunch celebration thingy at Chai Chee on Saturday, 11 Jan. There’s this group of Malays who come together to celebrate the achievements of the members of the Malay community. Led by Mr Ahmad S Munir (his initals being ASM), the group is called ASM- Aku Sayang Melayu, which is translated to I Love Malays! The lunch was held at S.K. Connection- a restaurant opened by Malays too. (#SoProudToBeAMalay ya’ll) It’s really, really, really nice to see these people, strangers, in fact, come for the ceremony to congratulate me and the Silat Gold medalist, Alfian (who happens to be a Ngee Ann student!). As usual, where there’s a Malay gathering, there’ll be good food. YUM. Food at S. K. Connection was so good! The Nuradee brothers were there too, so were some Malay actors and celebrities. WAH I FEEL LIKE A PRINCESS with all these people coming to celebrate my victory. Hehe.
Best part of the event was that I had to give a speech in Malay. Thing is, I am proud to be a Malay but speaking in Malay is not really my forte and it was pretty embarassing! So, it is in fact one of my New Year Resolutions to improve my Malay. But like what the Malays say, go jer. Wasn’t that bad, I must say. My Cikgu will be so proud.
It’s nice to see that more Malays are breaking out of the norm! Malays are always known to be lazy and laidback but the upcoming generation is going to make sure we are not labeled as that any more. YAY TO THE FUTURE OF MALAYS!
